Vagina Itching and How To Stop It

The genital area is a sensitive area and genital hygiene is very important to avoid vagina itching.

Vagina Itching

Vagina itching is normal to all women, but when it causes discomfort, it should be dealt with immediately. Vagina itching may be caused by a few different factors. Sometimes, the itching may cause women to scratch the area, which may in turn cause it to itch more and may become infected. Causes of vaginal itching may be due to yeast infections, dirty or ill-fitting underwear, or sexually transmitted diseases. Vagina itching in pregnant women, however, is normal since the vaginal area starts changing its PH level and may cause the genital area to itch a lot.

For pregnant women, reducing vaginal itching can be done by taking baking soda baths.

Baking soda can help manage the change of PH levels and may reduce vagina itching. You can also make a baking soda paste and apply it to the itchy areas around the genitals. Sexual intercourse may also help in reducing the vagina itching. It is said that the male semen may help in the change of PH levels in the vagina. For most pregnant women, applying a cold compress on the itching area will also stop the discomfort. This is normal in pregnant women; however, checking for any problems in the vaginal area should be done to be sure.

Most women just have vaginal itching without having any STDs or infections. Those who have STDs may take pills to cure them and relieve them from the itching in their genital area. Those who have infections such as yeast infection may apply ointments that may kill the yeast and prevent vagina itching.

There are women who experience vagina itching without having exposure to any of the mentioned causes. This is normal as the genital area is sensitive and most of the time closed. Hygienic practices are important to keep the genital area clean and dry. This way, you can prevent vagina itching. Keep the vagina clean by following these tips:

  • When wiping the genital area after a bowel movement, always wipe from front to back to prevent germs and bacteria from entering the vagina.
  • When having your menstrual period, change napkins and tampons frequently to keep the genitalia fresh and clean.
  • Use feminine wash on the vagina. Feminine washes are made especially for the genitalia to keep it from itching and from drying as well. If not, use hypoallergenic soaps and unscented soaps as well to keep the vaginal area from drying and flaking.
  • Use clean towels and practice a habit of good hand washing.
  • Do not wear clothing that is too tight on the genitalia. Crotch hugging jeans or leather pants could irritate the genital area and cause vagina itching
  • Use loose clothing and underwear at night to help the air flow to circulate around the genital area.

These are just some ways to prevent vagina itching and to help women have a clean and healthy genital area.

Vagina itching may be a nuisance and may intervene with most of your daily activities. Make it a habit to prevent vaginal itching by practicing clean and hygienic habits on the genital area. Most women would try creams, but some creams only cause more drying to the vagina that may lead to flaking and itching. Use gels that may soothe the genital area and will also not be the cause of drying.
