Scalp Itch and Dandruff Go Hand In Hand
Dandruff is the flaking of the scalp that would eventually lead to scalp itch and dry hair. Most people, especially women, have dandruff problems; however, dealing with dandruff is easy. Dandruff, in its medical term is known as scurf or Pityriasis simplex capillitii. It is a common condition in people characterized by the flaking and itching of the scalp.
Itchy scalp can also be caused by a number of other factors such as the weather, the food eaten and sometimes the shampoo used. Scalp itch caused by the weather may also leave the scalp flaky; this is due to the drying of the scalp during cold seasons like winter and autumn. Some people experience scalp itch during the cold seasons because the scalp is more likely to dry and cause flaking.
The choice of shampoo can also be the main cause for scalp itch. Some shampoos are too strong on the scalp which leads the scalp into flaking and drying. These shampoos are the highly commercialized ones that have a strong scent. Some people are allergic to too much scented lotion on their skin. Their skin, including their scalp, is too sensitive to such lotions and shampoos. People who have a problem with strong scented shampoo may experience scalp itch most of the time. Changing the brand of shampoo used to a hypoallergenic one would do wonders for your scalp.
Conditioning once a week would also help as conditioners could also cause flaking. Food can also cause the itching of the scalp but this is a rare condition. Only people who are allergic to certain food may experience such itching of the scalp when eating a particular dish or food. Chocolates sometimes cause this affect on the scalp, but it is a rare condition and only a few people are known to be allergic to chocolate, dark chocolate usually.
Scalp itch is normal and everyone will experience scalp itch.
Sometimes it is caused by stress. Stress can lead to different changes in the body and most of the time falling hair and scalp itch are a symptom of stress. Most people who experience stress also experience scalp itch, flaking of their scalp and body rashes. This is a reaction the body does to tell you that you are stressed and that the level of stress hormones in your body is growing every time a person stresses themselves out.
So, for people who experience scalp itch, it’s time that you check your daily ritual and see which of the foregoing factors are causing your scalp to itch. Dandruff problems can be solved easily by certain shampoos that are specialized in cleaning and caring for your scalp. These are non-scented hypoallergenic shampoos that kill dandruff to the root of the fungi. It may cost a little more than your salon designed shampoos but it is better to use especially when you’re tired of scalp itch.
The other factors that may cause your scalp to itch can be dealt by with prevention. You can’t control the weather, hence when it starts to get cold make sure to get constant hot oils and scalp softening treatments. These treatments would help your scalp deal with the coldness and prevent the scalp from drying. If your scalp is itchy due to food, eat small amounts of the food that causes your scalp to itch.
